Hanqi Sheng was born in Hangzhou, China. In 2016, she graduated with a master’s degree in Film&Television from China Academy of Art. In 2015, she received Art School Alliance scholarship and had an exchange term in HFBK Hamburg. Since 2016, she started studying documentary film with Professor Pepe Danquart at HFBK Hamburg. Her main focus and interests since her bachelor studies, are urban and feminism-related topics. The films she worked on have been shown and awarded at international film festivals, including Competition Medium Length and Short film, Visions du Réel 50th International Film Festival Nyon, 2019; International Programm, DOK Leipzig 2019; Analog film section, Darkroom Film Festival London, 2019; „Best Film“ in 30-70 Doc Festival Italy, 2020; 13th Love Queer Cinema Week, Beijing, 2020, etc.
